The all-female panel of South African Women’s Wine Awards was out to seek and crown the best wines through a double-blind tasting held at Nietvoorbij on Thursday, 29 June 2017. Gold was awarded to our Ayama Leopard Spot Red 2015, and we are extremely proud of this great achievement for only its second vintage!
True to the Ayama style, we wanted to create a premium blend range unique to Slent, telling a tale, and so in 2014 The Ayama Leopard Spot Range was launched. The range consisting of a Red and White Blend, is dedicated to the beautiful Leopards living on our mountain.
The 2nd vintage of this award winning wine, is a combination of our best blocks of Pinotage, Shiraz and Grenache Noir, predominantly 52% Pinotage, 43% Shiraz and 5% Grenache Noir. The full-bodied wine has an elegantly supple mouthfeel, with well-integrated, but prominent tannins, giving off ripe, fleshy black cherries, plums and chocolate shaving flavours, combining well to the tone of spicy, peppery flavours. Matured in steel tanks retained the natural flavours of the different varieties in percentage, making it a more fruit driven wine, and a clear expression of the unique terroir of the Voor-Paardeberg. The Leopard Spot Red is a great wine for classic roasts, great steaks, venison and cheeses, or even classically by itself.
