Would you like to experience harvest by Ayama?
Harvest is the most exciting time of the year for any grower, viticulturist, and winemaker. It is the time when all worries and hopes, dreams and experiences, studies or intuitions can be measured in quality and quantity. A final exam which carries new hopes for what is happening next to your grapes. Something amazing we would like to share with the passionate world of Wine lovers.
There is no doubt that 2020 changed our lives in a tremendous way but for Ayama team, this was an opportunity to rethink the way we share our respect for Nature and our passions.
Inspired by the enthusiasm of many fans that followed and cheered the 2020 harvest videos and pictures, we came to the idea of inviting our fans to 2021 harvest, cutting grapes, filling the crates, moving them to bins and see them going to the cellar. Being fully aware that especially this year it will be not an easy task, driven by Mandela in saying that nothing is impossible till is done, join us and let’s DO IT!

We are inviting you to join us to harvest “special” blocks:
Heritage vineyard Chenin Blanc block 8
the first Vermentino block planted in South Africa
Pinotage bush vines
Carignan
Grenache Noir
Grenache Blanc.
Dates: due to the nature of the event, we will be able to communicate the final date for each block only 1 week before harvesting. Approximately we will start harvesting from the 10th of February to middle of March. Days of harvest are during working days, Monday to Friday.
Time: Be prepared to be waking up early, we start at 6am in the morning. We have a “breakfast break” around 9am. We stop for lunch for 1 hour, a nice Italian snack will supply the energy for the second round of the day. We stop when the block is finished, but no later than 4pm.
Program: after your arrival and Covid19 procedures, we will all go to the vineyard. Training will be given by Talia and Michela. Eugene and Attilio will also be assisting.
Crates will be ready for you. Be prepared to be sweaty, sticky, and tired… It is a hard job. HAPPY as you never being in your life.
To add the full experience, your performance will be measured with tokens, which will be counted at the end of the harvest.
Will you be part of the winemaking process? Not this time. Working in cellars is a completely different game and there are serious law restrictions we can’t avoid obeying. But… a Grand Finale might be in the pipeline where we also press some grapes together. We will keep you posted if we can make it.
What do you need to bring: Sun screen and a hat. Your mask is compulsory.
Dress code: t-shirt and long trousers. Comfortable and easily washable (you are going to be dirty at the end of the day), closed shoes (takkies, safety working shoes, trekking shoes, they all do).
What will be supplied: gloves, scissors (proper and very sharp ones), and tokens. Fresh drinking water all day long. Crates. Food and drinks.
COVID19 procedures: You will be screened at arrival. All items and tools given to you will be new and/or sterilized. Distance of at least 2mt will be assured between guests and our team is trained to adhere to all Covid19 rules, screened every day and sanitizing hands and tools a great number of times during the day.
Do you need to pay? No, it is a free event – entrance will be allowed to maximum 25 people per harvest day, from a list of pre-booked AyamaFanatics.
Will you be paid? No. But here is the deal. After the block is finished, in the best Italian tradition, a full meal is served to harvesters. Everyone sits around a long table and stories, songs and laughs are shared making of this the most memorable day in your life.
